HomeAssist is included on all Discovery Insure Plans with building or household contents cover, and offers clients assistance in the event of an emergency in their home. HomeAssist is available 24 hours a day.
HomeAssist offers emergency electrical, plumbing, and locksmith services. Clients have cover for three incidents per household, per year, including outbuildings, up to a maximum of R2 000 for all events. The call-out fee, plus one hour of labour is covered.
How HomeAssist works
Clients can contact HomeAssist by calling Discovery Insure 911 on 0860 999 911 or the Discovery Insure call centre on 0860 751 751.
In the case of a burst geyser after hours, the leak will be isolated by the HomeAssist team and a notification of the event will be sent to Discovery Insure who will address the claim the following working day. A plumber will then be appointed to replace the geyser. Geysers replaced at night by the HomeAssist team will need to be paid for in full by the client, after which a claim for the amount can be submitted to Discovery Insure.
The following events are not covered by the HomeAssist benefit:
Non-emergency events. Clients who use HomeAssist in these circumstances may do so at their own expense.
Repairs to jacuzzis, swimming pools, borehole pumps, air conditioners, commercial refrigerators, repairs not complying with regulated specifications, and the unlocking of padlocks.
The cost of any parts used in the repairs are excluded.
