Discovery Insure continues to create a nation of great drivers




We have expanded our partnership to Avis to pioneer a world-first innovation in the car rental industry: Avis SafeDrive. The partnership gives Avis clients access to unique safety features and daily incentives that reward them for driving well.

From the beginning of August, Avis SafeDrive has been an option available to all Avis rental clients. For only R45 a day, car hire clients can get daily rewards from KAUAI, vida e caffè, Mugg & Bean and Nando’s for driving well. Included is a range of unique safety features, all easily accessed through the Avis SafeDrive smartphone app, such as:
  • ImpactAlert: In the event of a severe impact to the vehicle, an automatic alert is sent to Discovery Insure emergency services. We will then send immediate emergency assistance, ensuring that when a client is injured or unable to call for help, the assistance will already be on its way
  • Vehicle panic button: This is a discreet tool for any emergency, where the client simply has to press their smartphone's power button five times in quick succession to dispatch immediate assistance to their location
  • Access to the Avis 24-hour emergency call centre
  • Weather alerts by SMS, warning clients to stay off the roads.
Avis clients who drive well throughout their car rental term may also qualify for additional rewards.

No-Average Guarantee:

Clients are responsible to make sure they are insured for the correct value for household contents. We offer an asset inventory assessment to assist our clients with establishing their correct household contents value.

Clients who have a household contents inventory assessment done by a Discovery Insure–accredited provider and insure their household contents for the appropriate amount, will receive a no-average guarantee from Discovery Insure. This means valid household contents claims will be paid out in full, in accordance with the terms and conditions of the Plan Guide, as the client is not underinsured.

To make sure their no-average guarantee is maintained, clients will need to:
  • Insure their household contents for the agreed amount;
  • Update their sum insured within 30 days of new purchases.
The asset inventory applies only to household contents.

Clients who want cover for items they carry and wear outside their homes will need to select this cover under the portable possessions section of cover, and choose which items they want to cover.

Within three days of Plan activation, Discovery Insure will automatically contact clients who have household contents insured for more than R1.5 million to arrange an inventory assessment, which will be provided at no extra cost for these clients. If the sum insured is below this amount, an inventory assessment is available, at the client’s own cost.

If clients choose to have an inventory assessment done with Discovery Insure’s accredited provider and their contents value is assessed to be higher than R1.5 million, we will reimburse the client for the cost of the assessment as long as they increase their sum insured value to that of the assessment.

If a client has over R1.5 million in household contents due to increases over the life of the Plan, they can choose to have an inventory assessment done at any time.

Discovery Insure will only pay for one inventory assessment during the life of the Plan.
