Don’t coulda, woulda, shoulda… Do!

As you get older you get to know yourself better, you gain confidence and avoid mistakes you might have made in your twenties. You’ve worked hard to achieve your goals: a successful career, a loving family, taking exotic trips and enjoying the life you’ve created. It feels good, doesn’t it? George Bernard Shaw said it best: “Youth is wasted on the young.”

Have you ever thought about what you’d do differently if you had it to do over again? What would your more experienced self tell your younger self? Do you have any regrets?

Regret… it’s such a heavy word. We all have one or two, that’s life. What is important is not being trapped by regret and living in the past – you should have started saving for your retirement earlier, you should have exercised more when you had the energy, you should have followed a healthier diet, even though you felt invincible in your twenties.

The good news is that it’s never too late to take action and get your lifestyle on track. And it’s easy when you know how:

Let go of regret

1. Learn

Regret gets your attention. It offers you the opportunity to learn from the past and make exciting, new choices that will help you to get to where you want to be.

2. Act
Now that you know what you want to change, take action! Compile a healthier grocery list, join a gym, plan a power walk three times a week, take a look at your budget and work out how to save a little extra for the future. Remember, big changes start small.
3. Do it together
You don’t have to do it alone. The best way to make a change is to do it with a partner who believes in you, who motivates you and rewards you for doing well. A partner who’s with you every step of the way.

At Discovery Life we know how important it is take the first step to securing your future, both financially and health-wise. The good news is that, at Discovery Life, we tailor our Life Plans to suit your individual lifestyle needs.
